The time spiral open

Corporate & training

This is an opening sequence: a spiral of clock faces turning into the distance, lit gold against a dark surround. An open like this has one job, which is to hold attention for the few seconds before the piece it belongs to begins.

Framelink Media built the motion to end rather than to loop. The spiral slows as it reaches its centre, so the sequence arrives somewhere and hands over, instead of stopping because the clip ran out.

Everything was kept to one colour and one shape. A title sequence with three ideas in it competes with the film behind it, and the part a viewer should remember is the film.

The grade falls off at the edges so a title placed anywhere on the frame stays readable, which is what makes the sequence reusable rather than made once for one set of words. It can carry a different title next time without being rebuilt.
