Goodbye Shinkansen

Thumbnails

This is the cover for the video on this site about the retirement of Doctor Yellow, the yellow inspection train that checks the track on Japan's high-speed lines. The train is the reason the video exists and it takes the right half of the frame.

Framelink Media kept the presenter on the left with a cup in hand and a temple behind him, so the cover carries both the subject and the channel. A viewer who follows him recognises the person, and a viewer who has never seen the channel recognises the train.

The headline sits in a yellow box in the top corner, which is the one colour on the frame that is already in the photograph, so nothing was introduced that the picture did not supply.

The platform was graded to keep the yellow of the train the brightest thing in the shot. On a cover about a train that is famous for its colour, losing that colour would have been the only real mistake available.
