To camera, at home

Instagram Reels

This is a vertical piece filmed at home against a white wall, which is the most common setup there is and the hardest one to make look deliberate rather than accidental.

Framelink Media handled that in the framing and the grade. The subject sits off centre with room to the side rather than dead in the middle, and the wall was kept a shade below the skin tone so the frame has depth in it despite there being nothing behind him.

The cut is close. On a plain background a viewer has nothing to look at during a pause, so the pauses that carry meaning were kept and the ones that were only breath were taken out.

The captions were set high enough to clear the interface at the bottom of a phone, which is where half the words in this format go to die. It is a small thing and it is the difference between a caption being read and being cropped.
