To camera, outdoors

Instagram Reels

This is a vertical piece filmed outside in hard daylight. Midday sun is the worst light there is for a face, and most of the work on a piece like this happens before a single cut is made.

Framelink Media graded it to hold the skin tone and let the background go where it goes. Trying to save a blown fence and a bright sky at the same time costs the face, and the face is the only part of this frame anybody is watching.

The lapel microphone is visible in shot and was left there. Hiding it would mean reframing tighter, and a tighter frame outdoors means every small movement becomes a large one on a handheld shot.

The cut keeps his pacing rather than tightening to a rhythm the delivery does not have, which is what separates a piece that sounds like somebody talking from one that sounds like somebody edited. The pauses are his, and they are what make it sound like a person.
