Wedding cake detail
This is a detail piece from a wedding, built on the cake. A cake is the one object at a wedding that is made to be looked at, so it can carry a short piece on its own without a single face in it.
Framelink Media cut it as one slow move rather than a series of angles. The combing on the icing is the whole subject, and it only reads as texture while the light is travelling across it, which a cut interrupts.
The stone wall behind was left in and kept slightly cool, so a white cake against a cream ground still separates. That is the standing problem with wedding detail footage and it is solved in the grade rather than with a light.
The flowers are held at the same exposure as the icing rather than being lifted, because the moment the flowers get brighter than the cake the frame stops being about the cake.
