Boat run

This is a vertical piece filmed from the stern of a boat under power, the outboard throwing spray and a second boat crossing the bay behind. It is a piece with no talking in it, which changes what the edit has to do.

Framelink Media cut it on the engine. Where there is no voice the audio is the structure, so the cuts land on changes in the note rather than on a count, and the piece speeds up and settles the way the run does.

The camera is low and close to the water on purpose. Height makes a fast boat look slow, and the spray only reads as speed when it is crossing the lens rather than happening in the distance.

The grade keeps the white of the wake without blowing it out against a bright sky, which is the one thing that separates footage like this from every other clip of a boat.
